Manchester United host Newcastle; Arsenal face London derby at West Ham; Liverpool travel to Bournemouth; Chelsea drawn at home against Blackburn; fourth round ties to take place week commencing October 30
As the holders of the Carabao Cup, Manchester United will host Newcastle in a rematch of last season’s final as the choice of the fourth-round matches.
Following Manchester City’s defeat at St. James’ Park by Alexander Isak in the second half, Newcastle, who lost to United 2-0 in the season’s final, advanced.
Amazingly, Manchester United was drawn at home for the 12th time in a row in a domestic cup tournament. This streak, which began in March 2021, is thought to be a British football record.
In the fourth round, Liverpool will travel to Bournemouth after defeating Leicester 3-1 at Anfield thanks to a comeback victory.
Following an early goal from Kasey McAteer for Leicester, which was followed by goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Jota to advance the nine-time champions, Cody Gakpo scored an equalizer for Liverpool in the second half.
With two goals from Dominic Solanke and a free kick from Joe Rothwell in the space of three second-half minutes, Bournemouth defeated Stoke 2-0 at home.
Tomas Soucek’s lone goal in the second half helped West Ham defeat League One team Lincoln at Sincil Bank, and they will host Arsenal at home in the fourth round.
On Wednesday, Arsenal defeated Brentford 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Reiss Nelson.
Following a 1-0 home victory over Brighton, Nicolas Jackson’s goal in the second half gave Chelsea a draw against Blackburn.
With two goals in the second half, Andrew Moran led Blackburn to a 5-2 victory over Cardiff.
Jake Garrett’s opener for Blackburn was cancelled out by Callum Robinson and, after the home side had regained the lead through Arnor Sigurdsson, Kion Etete levelled it up again for Cardiff before the break.
After Sigurdsson’s penalty was saved, Moran scored twice in five minutes to give Blackburn the lead early in the second half, and Dilan Markanday added Rovers’ fifth goal.
After defeating Aston Villa 2-1, Everton will play manager Sean Dyche’s old team Burnley at Goodison Park in the round of 16.
Early in the second half, Everton was up 2-0 thanks to goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Garner until Boubacar Kamara cut Villa’s deficit in half late in the game.
After defeating Norwich 2-1, Fulham will have a difficult test against high-flying Ipswich in the Championship.
Brazilians Carlos Vinicius and Alex Iwobi scored goals in each half to put Fulham in control before Norwich’s Borja Sainz cut the deficit in half.
League Two team Mansfield was drawn to play League One Port Vale at Field Mill, ensuring a lower league club a spot in the quarterfinals.
Exeter of League One will host Middlesbrough in an attempt to advance to the round of eight.
